While onstage, Orlando act Open Windows seems to hardly notice the crowd. They are entranced, tuned in to their own groove. As an audience member, you can’t help but be swept away by it as well.
Honest, pure music with no unnecessary frills. Echoes of classic rock elements woven together with ethereal atmospherics create a feel of basement chill out sessions of a past generation, evenings of bean bags, bongs and black lights. And I mean that in the best possible way.
The difference of styles is definitely something of note with this band. They blend aspects of early Floyd with more contemporary funk fusion, often within the same song, as on “Round and Round We Go.”
Other times, the sound is more representative of Jimi Hendrix ‘Band of Gypsies’ era. All while keeping a cohesive, definitive sound all their own. You can definitely hear other bands in Open Windows, but they don’t sound like those bands.
Open Windows guitarist Michael Wheaton hopes audience members come away with “transcendence, or something like it.” I can see that.
The band prides itself on being completely open to interpretation by the listener. Wheaton puts it best, “We were never going to limit ourselves to what kind of music we were going to make. There are never any parameters on what we will or won’t do. We do whatever we think is necessary to communicate how we feel.”
The band is currently recording a full length album ‘Lanterns’ scheduled for a July 9 release. The band promises ‘Lanterns’ will be “more of an album, like they used to make”, as Wheaton puts it.
I'm also very sad to report that Open Windows has packed their bags and moved to North Carolina. I'm in touch with them and they'll be popping back into town to do some shows coming up soon. I'll keep you posted.

Nice one Croz.
